As the Constituent Assembly (CA) election nears, candidates, political leaders and cadres have booked rooms at different hotels in the district headquarters Gorkha Bazaar. They visit different parts of the district for election campaigning and return to the hotels in the evening due to security reasons. [break]
Achyut Lal Shrestha, secretary of the Hotel Entrepreneurs´ Association, said business of hoteliers has increased significantly these days. Shankar Pandey, owner of Hotel Bisauni, said they have been opening the hotel till midnight for the last couple of weeks to serve people involved in political campaigning.
The hotels are also seeing large number of tourist as this happens to be peak tourist season in the country. Gorkha district is the starting point of different trekking routes in the famous Manaslu Region.
There are over three dozen hotels in Gorkha Bazaar. Meanwhile, consumption of petroleum products here has increased by around 20 percent. Leaders and cadres of major political parties are using cars, jeeps and motorbikes to campaign for their candidates.
Similarly, transport entrepreneurs have additional buses into service to ease movement of passengers to different parts of the district. This has led to rise in demand for petrol and diesel.
“Demand for petrol has increased significantly,” Sheetal Kaji Maske, owner of Kalash Oil Store, told Republica.
Sales of motorbikes have also increased in recent weeks. Promoters of Honda House - the local dealer of Honda bikes - said they have sold 22 bikes over the past 10 days.
