Gokarna picked Lobsang Tashi, Prasanna Upreti, KNS Thapa, Nirajan Sharma, Manohar Das Mool and Kanxhan Basnyat from the McDowell´s Signature Club Golf Championship held at the club on Saturday.[break]
Tashi won the title in the 0-8 handicap category scoring 30 points in the tournament played over nine holes on a power play format with stableford scoring system. Upreti was runner-up in the category with 14 points. Tashi won the most power plays award as he scored 20 points through power play putting.
The power play format contained two flags in every green -- easy and difficult -- defined by colors of flags. A player had to play at least three difficult holes and scoring birdie or better on power play holes earned double points.
Likewise, Thapa won the title in the category of handicap 9-16 with 25 points while Sharma became runner-up in the category with 23 points. Mool accumulated 29 points in handicap 17-24 and became the winner of the category in which Basnyat was runner-up in count back with Mool.
The winners and runners-up of the three categories will represent Gokarna Golf Club in the regional finals to be held in India while the regional winners will play final round in Phuket, Thailand, on December 2010.
Meanwhile, Mrs Yoo won the ladies title while Arati Rana remained in the second position in count back. Robin Rana won the award for longest drive while Gopal Chitrakar was awarded for straightest drive.
Karma Ongdi Ghale won the title of guest winner in the club golf championship, where Laxman Pun was guest runner-up.
Director of United Spirits Nepal Pvt. Ltd., Rajesh Bir Singh Tuladhar, general manager, sales, Gautam Mullick, marketing manager of USNPL, Pritam Purakayastha, and general manager of Gokarna Forest Resort, Richard L. Dusome, gave away the prizes to the winners. Signature Rare Premium Whisky has been sponsoring the amateur golf tournament for the last few years.
