JAJARKOT, Dec 14:   Ghuyalneta village of Bheri Municipality-1 in Jajarkot has reported a diarrhoeal outbreak. Over 50 people who are living in tents in the aftermath of the November 3 earthquake have been affected by diarrhea, according to local people's representative Nain Bahadur BK.

The village is grappling with widespread cases of diarrhea, with children and the elderly being the most vulnerable to infection. Ward member BK said each family is affected by the outbreak. Despite communicating the issue to the authorities, no assistance has been provided to date for those affected.

In addition to Ghuyalneta, settlements in Daurikanda and Bhun have also reported cases of diarrhea. Over 100 families in these villages are experiencing symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Dharmashila BK shared her experience of suffering from the disease for the past two days, citing symptoms such as loose bowel movements, headache, vomiting, chest pain, and dizziness. The illness has also affected her six-year-old son. The prevalence of common cold and diarrhea is a significant concern. The locals lack access to nearby health facilities and it causes them inconvenience during health emergencies.

It is said the Peepay-based Health Center and Health Section at the local government have already been apprised of a health emergency in the village, but there has been no intervention from the official level so far.

Dr Pratiksha Bharati, chief of the Health Service Office in Jajarkot, acknowledged receiving information about the diarrhoeal outbreak in the late hours of Wednesday and said they are preparing to visit the affected areas today. "It may be the cold diarrhea," she added, assuring prompt intervention.

Moreover, various parts of the district are reporting a surge in cases of diarrhea, pneumonia, and respiratory complications of late.
