A warm greeting awaits and you immediately feel your pulse slow as soft music moves between the retro strains of The Beatles’ classics, through to new-age wanderings. Contented patrons’ faces glow in the subtle light of candles and paper lanterns. The seating choice is yours, but most people lounge on cushions fit for sultans within the Café’s sophisticated bamboo and mahogany surrounds.

But eating right is often easier said than done. The prospect of staving off the bitter chill of a Kathmandu winter with a salad is far from appealing. However, look a little further and you’ll soon discover The Green Organic Café has lures of its own.

Catering to all palates, the menu includes soups (served with buckwheat bread), salads, pastas, sandwiches, local and continental fare; as well as a tempting range of snacks and desserts.
But several standout items have clientele returning time and time again. During my visit, I saw several guests ignore the menu completely, simply advising the smiling and ever-professional wait staff to bring their “usual”.
The perfect appetizer to share are the Spinach and Cheese Momos, which have an inexplicable appeal far beyond their simple ingredients. So too does the Buckwheat Pasta Salad, garnished with intricately-carved carrot flowers and radish cranes, served with a choice of dressings.

Moving on to the main course, the Café’s most sought-after Non-Veg Health in a Bowl (veg available also), would warm the cockles of even the coldest heart.
