KATHMANDU, Aug 12: A “gentle agreement” has been reached between CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal. The two leaders, who had been exchanging various accusations and allegations against each other, have now agreed to refrain from such actions going forward.
On Monday morning, a discussion was held at the party’s central office in Aloknagar, Kathmandu, attended by Nepal, Khanal and other leaders. The agreement was reached during this meeting, according to Unified Socialist leader Damodar Aryal.

Previously, Chairman Nepal had remarked that it would not matter if Khanal left the party, while Khanal had responded that even after four years since its formation, the party’s relevance had not been established, suggesting that Nepal should “look in the mirror.” However, Aryal stated that these accusations and counter-accusations will now come to an end.
Khanal and other leaders have been calling for Nepal to step down from the party chairmanship—a demand that has grown stronger after Nepal became embroiled in the Patanjali land case. In the meantime, the exchange of accusations between Khanal and Nepal had intensified.
