KATHMANDU, April 7: The 30-party alliance of opposition parties led by UCPN (Maoist) has withdrawn the nationwide shutdown called for Wednesday and Thursday as part of their three-day banda.

A meeting of the 30-party alliance held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday took a decision to this effect.

Madhesi People's Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Chief Whip Ramjanam Chaudhary said they withdrew their planned protests in response to Constituent Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang's decision to defer the CA meeting for a week.

"We will decide our next move based on the agenda items to be floated at the next CA meeting scheduled for April 13," Chaudhary told Republica. "If they further insist on taking ahead the majority-based constitution making process, we will respond accordingly."

According to a participant at the 30-party alliance, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal floated the proposal to withdraw the general strike. "The meeting endorsed the proposal though some leaders from various constituent parties of the alliance opposed the proposal."

Meanwhile, Upendra Yadav led Madhesi People's Rights Forum Nepal has expressed dissent over the withdrawal of the general strike.
