KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The first Gen Z Martyrs Day is being observed in Nepal today with different programmes.
The Gen Z movement, which took place a year ago on September 8-9, led to the dissolution of the then government and the formation of a new one led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. The interim government subsequently conducted the March 5 election.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which secured nearly two-thirds of the votes in the election, formed a government under the leadership of young leader Balendra Shah.
The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah has declared a public holiday today to commemorate those who lost their lives in the historic movement. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on September 3 decided to declare a public holiday on Gen Z Martyrs Day.
