Gas station manager shot dead

CHITWAN, April 6: A group of armed robbers shot dead the manager of Jagadamba Petrol Pump at Ramnagar, Chitwan on Wednesday morning.



Bharat Ghimire, 23, was shot dead at 5 am while he was sleeping in his quarter, police said. Ghimire is a permanent resident of Bhanuchowk, Chitwan. [break]



Pretending to be customers, the armed men called Ghimire and then shot him while trying to loot money, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabi Raj Khadka. The fuel pump´s operator has claimed that the men made away with Rs 100,000, but this has not been verified, Khadka said.



Ghimire was shot in his chest and cheek. Eyewitnesses said the shooters left for Ramnagar forest after killing Ghimire.



The five assailants first demanded money, then beat Ghimire up, and finally shot him. Bishwa Raj Subedi, a staffer at the gas station, was injured after being beaten up by the assailants.



Locals, including Ghimire´s family members, on Wednesday blocked traffic at Ratnagar to protest the murder.
