Pokharel said that the attackers were hired by Indra Kumar Maskey, who had been illegally capturing a house owned by Pokharel´s mother Bimala Devi Pokharel for the last two years. [break]
"I was attacked by Binod Yadav and Pankaj Maskey, among others, when I was entering my house," Pokharel said.Pokharel has sustained minor injuries. He manage to escape serious injuries by running to a nearby police van.
Police have said they have arrested a few persons over the attack.
On Thursday, central member of Nepal Olympic Committee Sitaram Maskey, who is also a relative of Indra, threatened the Pokharel family not to evict Indra´s men from the house. While Indra is said to be out of town, he has stationed his men in Pokharel´s house and his relatives have been threatening the Pokharel family on behalf of him.
Earlier on Wednesday, a group of people including Karna Maskey and Pawan Maskey, both of whom are Indra´s relatives, threatened the Pokharel family not to evict Indra´s men from the house. Police said Pawan has a bad record in the police.
Indra, a resident of Biratnagar, has captured the property worth around Rs 35 million including a house and land belonging to Bimala Devi for the last two years.
A news regarding the issue was published in Republica and its sister publication Nagarik daily on May 30. Despite Home Minister Bhim Rawal´s direction to evict the illegal occupants from Pokharel´s house, Chief District Officer Shashi Shekhar Shrestha, who is also a relative of Maskey, had not been taking action against Maskey.
"You can´t fight with these strong people. You better reach a settlement by relinquishing half the land or providing Rs 4-5 million to them," Bimala Devi quoted the CDO as telling her when she approached the CDO for his help to evict the illegal occupants from her house.
