KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Nagarik Unmukti Party founder Resham Chaudhary has expressed confidence that Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa can lead the country.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Nepali Congress’ 15th General Convention, Chaudhary said Thapa, who played a role in the struggle for establishing the republic, would now play a leading role in building the country.

“I believe Gagan can lead this country,” he said. “The role he played in bringing the republic will also help him play a role in building the country.”
Chaudhary said the Nepali Congress had played an important role in drafting the Constitution and that changes within the party had strengthened his confidence in it.
He also complained that although the Constitution guarantees the rights of the Tharu and other communities, those rights have not been ensured in practice.
“Rights were written into the Constitution, but they were not granted. Identity cannot be traded away,” he said.
