Amid increasing cases of rape and acid attack against women and girls, a meeting of the coordination committee chaired by Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal held at Prime Minister’s Office made a decision in this regard on Sunday.
Expressing grave concern over the increasing incidents of rape and attack against women and girls, the committee has decided to punish the perpetrators involved in such incidents at the earliest and give justice to the victims.
“The committee is sensitive toward increasing number of cases related to violence against women and children in the recent times. Those involved in such incidents will be given maximum punishment and provide justice to the victims as per the existing laws,” the Chief Secretary told Republica.

Earlier on Friday, the Cabinet directed the MoE to arrange SLC examinations for acid attack victims--Sangita Magar and Sima Basnet--at the hospitals where they were currently undergoing treatment.
The coordination committee also entrusted the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare to set up rehabilitation centers within a month for female victims who need long-term rehabilitation packages.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs is directed to investigate into cases of violence against women and children, provide justice to them and make favorable environment to women to file complaints against perpetrators with the police,” read a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday.
Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office Rajuman Singh Malla has been directed to identify reasons behind increasing number of cases on violence against women and recommend solutions for preventing such cases in future and submit a report within a month in this connection, the statement further said.
