CJ Regmi said so inaugurating a three-day conference organized by Fulbright Alumni Association of Nepal (FAAN) here Friday. [break]Commending the role played by The Commission of Educational Exchange between the US and Nepal (USEF-Nepal), Regmi said, “The education exchange program reflected the solidarity that existed between the two countries.”
In the inaugural ceremony of the conference titled “Adapting to Change: Fulbrighters´ Perspectives on South and Central Asian Societies,” scholar Jay Raj Acharya, a Fulbright alumnus, highlighted the necessity of discourse on the social dynamics of south and central Asian societies.
Emphasizing the role played by the education exchange program, he said, “I was able to build an invaluable perspective on the social, political and economic issues confronting my native country back in 1984 when I went to the US under the Fulbright scholarship program.”
Terry White, a representative of the US embassy, also spoke at the inauguration.
The academic papers being presented at the conference will cover social, environmental, political and economic issues of the region as well as the issues of good governance.
The Fulbright alumni from 12 countries of the region including Nepal, will focus on the connections among the societies of the region and the commonalities they share. The conference will end on April 27.
