BIRGUNJ, Sept 27: Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) has won the mayoral post in Birgunj Metropolitan City, the only metropolis of Province 2.
With the official result announced, FSFN candidate Bijay Kumar Sarawogi has been elected as the first mayor of the metropolis with 19,393 votes. His immediate rival, Ajay Dwivedi of Nepali Congress (NC) lost by 2,916 votes and garnered 17,197 votes.
Likewise, Shanti Karki of NC has been elected as the deputy-mayor of the metropolis. The 82 years old contender Karki defeated Pinky Yadav of FSFN securing 19,607 votes against 18,530 votes.
