KATHMANDU, May 4: The Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) and Naya Shakti Nepal have agreed to merge their parties on Monday (May 6).
Upendra Yadav and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, chairperson and coordinator of FSFN and Naya Shakti Nepal, respectively, signed an agreement today.
As per the initial agreement, the new party will be named as Samajwadi Party Nepal.
On May 2, the merger was stalled after FSFN declined to quit the government. One of the conditions that Naya Shakti had proposed to FSFN was that it had to quit the government and stay as the opposition for the next five years after the unification. After Deputy Prime Minister Upendra Yadav-led FSFN said it was unwilling to do so, the merger was put on hold.
