Friendly football to support Lama

KATHMANDU, July 31: Fans of Nepali football beat Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) 5-2 on Saturday in a friendly football match organized to collect funds to support the family of Jigme Gyaljen Lama who died while playing inter-school football on June 5.



In the match held at the Dasharath Stadium, Subash Thapa scored twice for Fans of Nepali football. Chandan Tamrakar, Nishanta Pradhan and Anuj Thapa scored one each for the winning side. [break]



Earlier, Niranjan Rajbanshi had opened the scoring for NSJF and Aman Adhikari had added another through spot kick to give the team a 2-1 lead until the first half. But Fans of Nepali Football added three goals in the second half to register an easy victory.



After the completion of the match, former footballer of Nabil Three Star Pralaya Rajbhandari, who resides in the US, handed over a purse of Rs 37,305 to Jhawendra Kumar Subedi, the vice president of Mangaldeep School where Lama studied. The money was collected from Nepalis residing in America.







Meanwhile, the jerseys worn by both the teams in the match were given away to the football academy of Madhyapur Youth Club. Former national football captain Upendra Man Singh is the president of the club.
