ROLPA, Aug. 14: Rolpa has been hit by another deadly landslide, with one person killed and three others missing after torrential rain triggered landslides in Sunchhahari Rural Municipality-2 on Thursday night.
The landslides buried several houses in Gaam, causing further loss of life and property in the district, which witnessed a major landslide tragedy just a day earlier.
Thirty one people go missing in Rolpa this past year
Rolpa District Police Office Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Panchakumar Bakhu confirmed that people were buried in the landslide. Krishna Bahadur Budha, ward chair of Sunchhahari-2, said three people were buried in Phalbang.
“Three people have been buried in Phalbang, while a house was buried in Gisthe, killing a woman. Nepal Police and local residents are carrying out rescue efforts,” he said.
Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri also confirmed the incident, saying a police team from the Area Police Office in Bahirigam had been dispatched to the site for search and rescue operations.
The latest incident comes a day after a devastating landslide in Kotbara of Thabang Rural Municipality-5 killed 10 people on Wednesday night. Three people from that incident remain missing, while two others who sustained serious injuries are receiving treatment at Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Butwal.
Police said the search for the three people missing from Wednesday night's landslide was continuing.
