France shows interest in cable car construction in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, Sept 26: The Government of France has shown interest for the construction of cable car in urban areas in Kathmandu valley.



During the meeting with Minister for Finance, Shankar Prasad Koirala, on Thursday, Charge de´ Affairs of the French Embassy in Kathmandu, Virgin Cortewall, said that the cable car would be effective to maintain environmental balance by controlling increasing pressure of vehicles in Kathmandu valley. [break]



Stating that such experiment carried out by his country was successful in many countries, the French Charge de´ Affaires mentioned that they have also wanted to carry out feasibility study of the same in Nepal.



On the occasion, Minister Koirala said that such service should be easily available to all saying such projects would be meaningful to reducing fuel expenses.



The Finance Minister expressed the belief that the cable car service would be fruitful in view of tourism and environment.



Cable car experts of France were also present on the occasion, said Minister Koirala´s aide, Sanket Koirala.
