Police had arrested 17 persons including five Indian nationals in a raid at Maitidevi on Friday night to reportedly foil an attempt to leak question-papers and even recovered two loaded pistols from a private apartment rented by a suspected doctor.[break]
“We reached the place before they brought the question papers. They were planning to distribute the question-papers,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lal Mani Acharya at Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu (MPRK).
According to Acharya, three Nepali students were found to have paid up to Rs 2 million each to get the leaked question-papers and the whole scheme so far seems to be hatched by four different institutes. He, however, refused to disclose the name of the institutes keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter.
Four Indian nationals booked for possessing arms
Police on Sunday booked four Indian nationals on the charge of possessing arms, releasing 12 Nepali nationals and an Indian driver. Two loaded pistols were recovered from Indian nationals.
The police have been investigating into why armed Indian nationals, who are not students themselves, had been staying with the students waiting for leaked question-papers, said Acharya. He pointed out a possibility of conflict between groups involved in scam.

According to investigative officials, one Dr Prabhat Kushbaha appeared to be the point man of the scam and was assisted by Prajwal KC. Both are at large.
District Education Officer of Bara Kedar Tiwari and his wife were among those arrested but both were released immediately. “All except the four Indian nationals were primarily found innocent,” Acharya said.
Four Indian nationals -- Abhishek Singh, 28, Ashutosh Yadav, 30, Ashish Srivastav, 27, and Pradeep Sukla, 27-- had arrived in Kathmandu in a hired vehicle bearing Indian registration plate to meet Dr Prabhat.
