KATHMANDU, Nov 13: The government is now going to operate vocational training institutes to produce manpower required for the national and international markets.


The Cabinet meeting on November 9 approved the National Vocational and Skill Development Training Center (Establishment and Operation) Order, 2080 BS. Accordingly, the officials at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS), a Committee has been formed to oversee this initiative.


According to the ministry, the aim of this institution is to produce skilled, competitive and entrepreneurial manpower. It has been said that the work of teaching skills to the workers, which was previously done at the private level, will now be done by this institution. The institution has been given the responsibility of conducting and managing the training program.

The Council of Ministers meeting decided to form such an institution to conduct and manage various training programs with the aim of producing skilled, competitive and entrepreneurial manpower in accordance with the demands and needs of the national and international labor market.


According to a statement issued by Danduraj Ghimire, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the MoLESS, there will be an authorized board of directors in the institution and an executive director as the administrative head of the institution.


The institution has been given the responsibility of identifying and selecting the subject of training according to the demand of the labor market, approving and implementing the training curriculum and standards, conducting skill tests, grading and certification of the training programs conducted by the institution.


Furthermore, the institution is tasked with the registration, listing, monitoring instructions, and necessary coordination and policy arrangements for external training provider organizations. It will also make arrangements for the recognition of the institute's training by international organizations, coordinate with domestic employer companies, destination countries, training providers, and other training organizations.


Professional and skill training will be conducted from this institute in the coming days for a period of six months. For this purpose, provision has been made to prepare curriculum, conduct skill training, test skills and issue certificates from this institution.


According to the MoLESS, the said National Vocational and Skill Development Training Center (Establishment and Operation) Order, 2080 BS., approved by the Council of Ministers meeting, will be published in the Nepal Gazette and implemented soon.
