Apple is likely to include an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner hidden behind the screen of an upcoming iPhone, according to industry leaks. The next generation of Apple iPhone is rumoured to include a fingerprint scanner tucked away behind the display screen. Presently Samsung uses the technology in two of its devices but they have been plagued with problems, including allowing any finger to unlock the device if it has been fitted with a certain type of screen protector.

Apple’s scanner will likely be Qualcomm’s new 3D Sonic Max, the latest version of its ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It provides a recognition area seventeen times larger than the previous generation – allowing for increased speed, ease of use and even simultaneous two-finger authentication for greater security.
