CHITWAN, March 16: Four students were injured in a clash between students of rival unions in Narayanghat Monday morning. The clash occurred even as tension was yet to subside at Birendra Multiple Campus where a similar clash occurred Sunday evening in connection with the approaching Free Students’ Union elections. Among the injured are Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) candidates for Secretary Dataram Ghimire and Pradip Pathak, and vice-chairman hopeful Gautam Gurung of Balkumari College, and secretarial candidate for Birendra Multiple Campus Mitranidhi Tiwari.

Tiwari was bashed up by students affiliated with the alliance of All Nepal Free Students Union (ANNFSU) of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) and All Nepal Independent Students´ Union-Revolutionary affiliated to Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in front of Birendra Multiple Campus.

The injured are receiving treatment at Bharatpur Hospital. The alliance between the two communist student bodies had announced a gathering in front of Balkumari College Monday morning. They attacked the NSU students charging them of trying to disrupt the gathering.

Daily clashes have left Birendra, Saptagandaki, Maiyadevi Women’s and Balkumari colleges, among others, tense. There is strong security presence around the campus areas.

Right now, NSU and the alliance are organizing separate meetings to plan retaliation against each other. Armed students can be seen looking for students of rival union in Bharatpur.
