Four die in landslide

BAGLUNG, May 17: Four people, two of them excavator operators, employed for road construction were buried to death in a landslide in Mustang on Wednesday.



According to Mustang district police office all the four died on the spot at Jogmire precipice at Jomsom-Lomanthang road block as the landslide covered their excavator. [break]



The operators have been identified as Dhruba Majhi and Jhalak Majhi from Bansbari-2, Sindhupalchowk and assistant drivers as Jeet Bahadur Lama of Prithivinarayan municipality-8, Gorkha and Sunil Kumar Chaudhari of Ratpur-6, Dang.



The four locked themselves in the excavator´s cabin when a very high pressure wind started to blow Wednesday evening. “But they got buried when a cliff face fell on their excavator,” SP Rajendra Pokhrel said. "The landslide damaged the excavator completely. We took out the dead bodies using a dozer."



Even though a rescue team of the Nepal army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police had reached the spot on Wednesday, the dead bodies could be extracted from the debris only on Thursday.
