Four die as jeep slips off road

ILAM, Nov 12: Four people, including a little girl, died and six were injured on Monday when the jeep carrying them slipped off the road in a village in Ilam district.



The Jhapa-bound jeep (Me 1 Ja 536), which was jam-packed with passengers from Limba VDC of Panchthar district, fell nearly 200 meters down the Falgundanda road in Bajho VDC as the driver left it without turning off the engine. [break]



According to the survivors, the driver Dip Singh Rai had disembarked from the jeep to chase a herd of cattle that was blocking the road. The dead have been identified as Dhan Prasad Yonghang, 43, of Kurumba VDC in Panchthar district, his wife Man Kumari, 46, Rajendra Prasad Bhattarai, 50, of Limba VDC-3 and Lina Tamang, from Limba VDC-1.



Lina died while being rushed to Damak for treatment, while other three died on the spot. Two of the six injured, who are said to be in critical condition, are undergoing treatment at BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS) in Dharan. The driver Rai has gone into hiding after the accident.
