KATHMANDU, Jan 30: Police arrested four individuals on the charge of selling counterfeit alcoholic beverages of a number of foreign brands.
According to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), the accused were arrested with 296 cartons of the counterfeit alcohol of foreign brands including Red Label, Black Label, Absolute Vodka, and Chivas Regal, among others. Based on the tracking of the alcohol bottles without having stickers of excise duty, the police got success in bringing forth the transactions of the counterfeit liquors.

Santosh Chandra Bakhrel, 39, of Parsa; Rabin Pakhrin, 28, of Suvarnapur, Parsa; Shailesh Pant, 30, of Kageshwari Manohara Municipality-6 and Narayan Prasad Ghimire, 38, of Barahathawa Municipality, Sarlahi were among the arrested.
Spokesperson for the MPCD Superintendent of Police Krishna Koirala said the police raided the retail shops of the concerned on the basis of the complaints that these outlets were selling the liquors without the stickers of excise duty. According to him, the accused were found to be selling the counterfeit alcohol mainly to the party palaces.
Koirala said they have sent the sample of the confiscated liquors to the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology for lab tests. He said the police have been investigating the other possible nexus of the arrested.
