Former DIG Shah sentenced to three years in prison

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: The Special Court has sentenced former Nepal Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mahesh Bikram Shah to three years in prison.


The bench of special court Chairperson Teknarayan Kunwar and members Tejnarayan Singh Rai and Ritendra Thapa handed down the verdict on Wednesday, after finding ex-DIG and popular litterateur Shah guilty of corruption.

The court convicted two people including the then DIG Shah in the case of misappropriation of funds when he was the head of the Regional Police Training Office.


The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority had earlier filed a case of corruption against Shah claiming a refund of Rs. 1.6 million. The court ruled that the same amount should be recovered along with three years imprisonment.


Similarly, in the same case, the court sentenced former Nepal Police Sub-inspector Dipendra Prasad Paneru to three years in prison along with a fine of Rs. 1.6 million.
