According to vice-president of Kalikot Chamber and Commerce Industry Ratan Bahadur Shahi, the entire district has been hit hard by the food crisis that was surfaced due to the disruption of the Karnali Highway by a landslide four months ago.
There is a shortage of rice, lentils, flour, edible oil, sugar and noodles in the district, he said.
People visiting the district headquarters seeking foodstuffs and clothes are forced to return empty-handed. The Food Cooperation, Kalikot has been shut for the past one month, while rice has not been supplied to Thipu, Padmaghat and Khallagad depots for the past seven months.
However, it is learnt that parties have paid no heed to clear the highway yet. We requested many times to political leaders to take an initiative to resume the highway, but all our voices fell on deaf ears, said coordinator of civil society Amal Raj Shahi.
Likewise, decrease in the crops production caused by the prolonged drought last year created a more problem, said the locals.
