She left for New Delhi from Berlin, Germany on December 19 after participating in some events in Europe. Foreign Minister Rana represented Nepal at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Minister Rana first visited the Netherlands and then Germany.
Although FM Rana prolonged her stay in New Delhi in the hope of meeting senior Indian government officials, she could not meet any official this time, according to diplomatic sources. Her visit was aimed at laying grounds for the visit of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to India.
Sources also said that the visit earlier expected to take place in the second week of January is still uncertain, although Prime Minister Oli himself has publicly said that he will visit India after his recent visit to China.
Prime Minister Oli had agreed to expedite various 11 development projects under the Framework for Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation, which was signed during his visit to China. Rumors are rife in the diplomatic circle in Kathmandu that the Indian side is not happy with Nepal agreeing to implement BRI projects.
