KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Despite conducting pre-feasibility studies simultaneously in Gwarko, Satdobato, and Ekantakuna, the construction of flyovers in Satdobato, and Ekantakuna has encountered hurdles.

The Department of Road (DoR) and Quality Research and Development Center (QRDC) conducted the feasibility studies, but due to funding constraints, the projects have not advanced.

Rabindra Shrestha, an engineer from QRDC, revealed that although the feasibility studies have been completed for flyovers in Satdobato and Ekantakuna, immediate construction is not expected. The QRDC is seeking permission from the Ministry of Finance to move forward with the construction at these locations. If the ministry gives the go-ahead, the construction contract could be finalized within this year.

Despite conducting preliminary studies at all three locations, detailed studies are still pending. Engineer Shrestha stated that the Engineering Procurement and Construction model, similar to the one used for the Gwarko Chowk flyover, will be applied to the other two squares as well. This method involves the design and construction company taking on the contract.

In the previous fiscal year, the DoR proposed a budget to the Ministry of Finance for the structure's construction. However, it was not approved at that time, and the department is hopeful for approval this year. The DoR has requested funds to construct both flyovers in Ekantakuna and Satdobato concurrently, with the allocation depending on the approval.

The current fiscal year's budget includes plans for flyovers and underpasses at Ekantakuna, Satdobato, and New Baneshwar, in addition to completing the Gwarko flyover. The QRDC is currently studying the feasibility of constructing an underpass in New Baneshwar.

Engineer Shrestha emphasized that budget discussions will take place once the feasibility study is complete, but there are no immediate plans for construction in Baneshwar. Additionally, there are plans for an underpass similar to the one built from Khasi Bazar to Kalanki with assistance from the Chinese government.
