Floods, landslides claim 90 lives so far across Nepal

KATHMANDU, Aug. 2: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam has informed the parliament that 90 people were killed in landslides and floods after the beginning of monsoon this year.

Speaking in today's meeting of the Legislature-Parliament, DPM Gautam said that a search is on for the 38 people missing in the incidents of landslide and flood and the 48 injured were being treated.

He said that 35 people were killed, four were missing and 19 were injured in landslides occurred in Lumle, Bhadaure and Dhikurpokhari of Kaski on July 29.
Furthermore, DPM Gautam informed the House on the extent of losses caused by the landslide occurred in Myagdi, Taplejung and Rolpa districts as well.

Similarly, it is stated that 117 houses were completely damaged, some school buildings and suspension bridges were also partly damaged.

In the meeting, DPM Gautam said that the government was mobilizing a mechanism for rescuing the missing, providing treatment to the injured and opening the blocked roads.

The government has provided Rs 45,000 to the families of those killed in the natural disaster. He further informed that the Home Ministry has urged the people who were living in areas at risk of landslide and flood to move to the safer zones.
