Flood displaces 600 families in Kanchanpur

KANCHANPUR, Sept. 19: More than 600 families have been displaced due to floods in different rivers in Kanchanpur district following continuous downpour for the past four days.



The floods also swept away rice crop and maize crop planted on hundreds hectares of land.Mostly, Doda, Sunbora and Syali rivers have made heavy destruction.[break]



According to the District Police Office, around 200 families of the Bhimduttanagar Municipality have been displaced as the continuous rainfall inundated the houses.



According to Sub-Inspector of the Area Police Office, Krishnapur, Bodhraj Ojha, around 40 families of free Kamaiyas of Daya Amarpur, Khalla, among other places have been living at Laljhadi forest after leaving their settlement.



Similarly, floods in rivers have displaced many families and eroded lands in different places in the district.The flood swept away a four-room concrete building and other materials of Pipaladi-6 based Siddha Primary School, according to Principal of the School, Uttam Od.



Meanwhile, Ghar Katuwa rivulet has kept different settlements including Pariphanta and Naukhari at risk. Electricity service in the southern part of the district has also been disrupted from Tuesday night, police said.



Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Birkha Bahadur Rawal, ordered all the units of police to collect details of loss made by the floods.



Likewise, the floods also inundated Chhoti (subsidiary) Customs Office situated at Belauri.One-way transport service has been resumed at the East-West Highway which was damaged on Tuesday night by floods in Mohana river.



Meanwhile, the Indian side has prevented movement at Sharada Barrage for the past three days after water level in Mahakali river increased following continuous rainfall in the hilly district of the far-western region.



Movement has been stopped after water level is above the point of danger. Rawal further said water level of Mahakali river is 255,000 cusec today.Indian side has opened all the floodgates of the barrage on Nepal side.
