A cabinet meeting held last Wednesday had taken decision only to promote incumbent Additional Inspector General Ramesh Chanda Thakuri to Inspector General of Nepal Police.
Currently, only one AIG -- Rabindra Pratap Shah -- is on the job. He, too, has gone on leave since Friday. Police sources say Shah has gone on leave to protest Thakuri´s promotion to the top police post in the country.

There is just one more AIG serving the police -- the one newly-created position in technical service.
Sources at Home Ministry said a cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday is likely to promote five Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) to the vacant AIG positions.
Nepal Police headquarters bade farewell to the retiring IG amidst a function on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, Home Secretary Govinda Prasad Kusum is presenting insignia to the newly-appointed police chief Ramesh Chanda Thakuri on Tuesday at the Home Ministry.
