First governor of NRB passes away

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Himalaya SJB Rana, the first Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), has passed away at the age of 95.

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: Himalaya SJB Rana, the first Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), has passed away at the age of 95.


He died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu.

Rana is the first governor and former finance secretary of Nepal. He is also the founder of Himalayan Bank.


Lately, he was active as a prominent leader of the civil society movement of Nepal. He has also been proactive as the Founder of General Election Observation Committee (GEOC) to advocate for free, fair and impartial elections. Rana will be cremated at the Pashupati Aryaghat today. He is survived by two sons and two daughters
