Fire leaves 200 villagers high and dry

BANKE, April 17: Over 200 villagers have been left high and dry in a village of Banke after a massive fire gutted all their houses and cowsheds on Saturday morning.



A massive fire that broke out Friday midnight burnt down over three dozen houses and cowsheds in Jaya Rampur of Narainapur Village Development Committee (VDC), some 40 kilometers from the district headquarters, Nepalgunj. It took the firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control. [break]



According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Mahesh Bikram Shah, the amount of damage caused by the fire is yet to be ascertained.



The District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee (DNDRC) and Red Cross are likely to distribute relief materials from Sunday.



Earlier, some 80 houses and 20 cowsheds were destroyed in a fire in Khodawa village of the same VDC.
