Kathmandu district has registered 46.12 percent of voters while 92.41 percent voters registered in Sindhupalchowk. Dolakha district registered 92.4 percent voters in the new electoral roll.
Asked why fewer voters registered in the urban areas in comparison with rural areas, Chief Election Commissioner Neel Kantha Uprety said there could be two major reasons.
“First reason is that more people from the urban areas go abroad for employment or study as compared to rural areas,” Uprety said, adding, “the second reason is that urban people might be more indifferent toward voter registration.”
He also maintained that people in urban areas might be more busy and this caused a lower turnout for registration in the new electoral roll.
Altogether 584,674 out of 1,267,633 people above 18 years of age are registered in the new electoral roll in Kathmandu district.
