KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The Kathmandu branch office of Guthi Sansthan has appointed a woman as the priest of Annapurna Narayan temple located at Ason of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-27.
Chief of Kathmandu branch office, Hari Prasad Subedi, informed Rastriya Samachar Samiti that the office on Thursday appointed Sahanshila Jha to the post. However, Jha is not the first female priest, he added.
Priest injured in brawl over offerings
Earlier, female priests were appointed at some temples including Panchadewal of Godavari, according to the Guthi Sansthan. Sahanshila was appointed as the priest of the temple at Asan after her brother, Pramod, who was the priest of the temple, went abroad. She has been appointed to the post for five years with one-year probation period.
