MYAGDI, Dec 15: Works have begun to rebuild the Tamkot-based Jagannath-Annapurna Temple in Myagdi. The historic temple that lies in Dhawalagiri rural municipality-7 is significant in view of religious and touristic aspects. 


Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Thamamaya Thapa laid a foundation stone of the temple amidst a ceremony on Friday.

The monument dating back to the 16th century was damaged by the 2015 earthquake. As said by ward chair Kalanidhi Subedi, the reconstruction works began with the financial support from the government bodies and the community. It is estimated to cost eight million rupees to restore the temple and so far, locals and Nepalis at abroad have promised to contribute Rs 2.9 million for the reconstruction. 


On the occasion, the minister; and lawmaker Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa pledged for budget allocation to finish the works. As they said, the government planned for tourism development through the means of protection and promotion. 

According to rural municipality vice chair Resham Chhantyal, the inner structure and design will be kept unchanged during the renovation. 


Takamkot is taken as a major religious site in Myagdi and it is at an altitude of 2,500 meters above the sea level and magnificent views of Gurja, Dhawalagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna and Machhapuchhre peaks can be seen from here.
