KATHMANDU, June 20: The Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office has issued a notice stating that road excavation will be prohibited starting from June 17 until mid-September.
In a public notice, the office stated that during the monsoon season, roads dug up for purposes such as water supply, sewage, electricity, and telephone cannot be immediately repaired and restored to their original condition, which further damages the roads. “The purpose of this notice is to inform all concerned that, since roads dug up during the monsoon season for purposes such as water supply, sewage, electricity, and telephone cannot be immediately repaired and restored to their original condition—leading to further road damage,” the notice reads.
The notice further states, “Therefore, no approval will be granted to dig any roads under the jurisdiction of this office’s road divisions from June 17, until mid-September. If anyone is found digging roads without permission during this period, strict action will be taken in accordance with the Public Roads Act, 2031 BS.”
There are 10 road divisions under the office. A circular has been issued to all of these offices instructing them not to grant permission for road excavation.
