KATHMANDU, March 5: The number of road accidents in the capital has gone unabated thanks to the lack of proper use of zebra crossings, traffic lights and sky bridges.
Zebra crossings in most the places in the capital are invisible. Out of 300 zebra crossings, 60 percent of them are invisible, putting 40 percent of pedestrians at high risk of road accidents.
According to the data maintained by traffic police office, 25 sky bridges are not operational while 27, 150 road accidents occurred in the last five years.
The proper use of sky bridges and zebra crossings and awareness programs will help reduce the number of vehicular accidents, said Jaya Raj Sapkota, the spokesperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan Traffic Police Division.
