Shrestha was undergoing treatment at the hospital since Wednesday morning in ventilator support .He was suffering from lung cancer. Shrestha was survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
Shrestha, who had been treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the New Delhi-based Medant Hospital, was airlifted to Kathmandu on Tuesday night following no improvement in his condition. He had received treatment at Medant Hospital since one month.
Meanwhile, Shrestha’s body has been kept at his residence in Dhapasi for paying last tribute to the late leader, his son Anil Shrestha said.
He further informed that preparations have been made to carry out his last rites at Pashupati Aryaghat at around 1 pm this afternoon.
According to RSS, leaders including chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Kamal Thapa are at the Shrestha family´s residence for paying tributes to him . There is no information so far whether the top leaders of the major political parties and former Prime Ministers will be at Dhapasi to pay their tributes.
Chairman of the CPN-UML and former Prime Minister, however, told RSS that he was not going there.
It is also not clear whether or not as the former Prime Minister Shrestha´s last rites would be performed with State Honours. No concrete discussion has taken place on this matter also at the government´s top level due to the indifference of the leaders of the major political parties.
