Meanwhile, the writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the lower house of parliament is sub judice at the apex court.

The lower house parliament was dissolved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari who announced midterm elections at the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli on Dec 20 last year.

Following this move of the government, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) faced a vertical split. PM Oli’s faction of NCP has been backing the house dissolution and preparing for election while the rival faction led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal has been demanding the restoration of the dissolved parliament.

As per the government’s pre-announcement, the midterm elections have been scheduled for April 30 and May 10.
