Two minors involved in attacking elderly woman with sharp weapon in police custody

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: District Police Office, Dailekh, has arrested two minors on charge of attempted homicide. Police have kept the identity of the minors secret. Their changed names are Dailekh-39 of the age 14 and Dailekh-35 of the age 15.

On the night of February 2, a 75-year-old Mina Devi Sharma, who runs a retail shop in her house in Mahavu Rural Municipality-1, Dawada, was sleeping in her shop when they hit her head, back, chest, arms, legs and face with sharp weapons, beer bottle and wooden mallet, leaving her seriously injured.

A team of 15 police personnel from the District Police Office, Dailekh under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Police Kishor Lamsal was immediately mobilized to the incident site shortly after this was reported to police.

According to police, the injured Sharma was immediately sent to District Hospital Dailekh. After general treatment, she was sent to Karnali Province Hospital in Birendranagar, Surkhet for further treatment. DSP Lamsal said that she is still being treated in the ICU.

“During the investigation of the minors involved in the incident, it was found that they were hiding in a place called Lal Chowk located in Thakur Baba Municipality-3 of Bardiya on Monday,” Lamsal said. “With the coordination of the Bardiya police, we managed to arrest them.” 

Lamsal said that a five-day judicial remand was obtained from the Dailekh District Court. He added that the minors have been kept in the observation room and the investigation is currently underway.
