GORKHA, Aug 24: An elderly woman, who was admitted to Gorkha Hospital about four months ago, has been left in a lurch after her family members abandoned her at the hospital.

The family members of Lalita Kumari Khatiwada, 84, of Bangkot VDC had brought her to the hospital on April 25 in an ambulance. Since then one of her relative had turned up once, according to hospital sources. Till now the hospital has been unwillingly providing her treatment free of cost. [break]

Now due to bed crunch at the hospital, Khatiwada is being treated on the hospital floor, informed a doctor.

“Even the hospital is now least concerned about her treatment. The worst part is that she is going through this harrowing experience in such an old age,” said the doctor. “Thanks to the hospital administration, which is still giving her food and space,” he further added.

According to doctors, she is suffering from multiple complications including infections in the chest, lungs and kidneys.

“She can take food but going to toilet is the most difficult thing for her. We don´t know how long she can endure such suffering,” said another doctor.
