DHANGADHI, July 30: Kanchanpur District Court has acquitted eight police personnel including then chief of Kanchapur District Police SP Dilliraj Bista accused of destroying evidence associated to the rape and subsequent murder of Nirmala Panta.

The dead body of the 13-year-old girl from Bhimdutta Municipality-2 of Kanchanpur district was found in a sugarcane field on July 27, 2018. She had gone missing since a day ago.

Registrar at the Kanchanpur District Court Yadunath Sharma said a bench of Judge Gopal Prasad Bastola acquitted the police officers accused of destroying the evidence.

Nirmala's mother had filed the case against eight police officials including SP Bista and DSP Angur GC as defendants. As she grew suspicious over the earlier accused Dilip Singh Bista to be the rapist and murderer (after watching him confessing the crime in video clips), she had appealed to withdraw the case but to no avail.

SP Bista was sacked by the Ministry of Home Affairs, while seven other police officials including Gyan Bahadur Seti, Ekindra Khadka, Jagdish Bhatta, Hari Singh Dhami, Ram Singh Dhami and Chadani Saud were suspended.
