Eight Indian nationals arrested on suspicion of their involvement in gold smuggling

KATHMANDU, March 11: Government authorities have arrested eight Indian nationals suspected of being involved in gold smuggling.

KATHMANDU, March 11: Government authorities have arrested eight Indian nationals suspected of being involved in gold smuggling.


The Department of Revenue Investigation (DoRI) arrested the Indian citizens on March 1 and started the investigation. Eight members of the gang who allegedly smuggled gold to India have been arrested.

Director General of DoRI Navaraj Dhungana confirmed that they were arrested. "Some Indian citizens who are involved in suspicious activities have been detained and are being investigated," he said.


The team of the department arrested them from a rented house in  Swayambhu, Kathmandu-15. The arrested Indian citizens are Dhuva Sharma, 23, resident of Delhi West Bihar, Prince Sharma, 25, resident of Delhi Krishna Bihar, Rohit Kashyap, 22, resident of Delhi West Bihar, Dipansu Sharma, 23, resident of Rohina 110085 Block, Delhi, among others.


The department has confiscated their mobile phones and other materials for investigation. Sources claim that those arrested are connected to Bimal Podhar, who is facing a case for gold smuggling.
