GORKHA, May 10: Efforts are being made to operate Tibetan entry point to save the earthquake survivors of northern Gorkha district from famine.

Chief District Officer of Gorkha Uddhav Prasad Timelsena shared that attempts have been made to open two Tibetan entry points in Chhekampar and Samagaun VDCs of the district. He further said that the all-side decision to that effect was made at the district level and sent it to the Home Ministry.

CDO Timalsena further said that Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Nepali Congress Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel, among other senior leaders, were requested to take initiatives to open the northern border entry point from Gorkha during their Gorkha visit in the wake of earthquake.

The distribution of relief materials mainly foodstuffs has been marred in quake-hit Samagaun, Lho, Prok, Bihi, Chumchet, Chhekampar and Sirdibas, among others, of northern Gorkha due to earthquake-triggered devastation. The entry points have been opened once in a year in the month of Shrawan (July-August).

With the entry point coming into operation, the quake-hit people of northern Gorkha district could purchase essential goods from Tibetan market.

The District Natural Disaster Relief Committee has said that the transportation of relief materials to northern belt has seen trouble due to inadequate helicopters. The authority has to rely on helicopter to reach out relief assistance to 18 VDCs of northern Gorkha which is aloof from road network. RSS
