KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday said that it will conduct a thorough investigation to verify claims made by the rival factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party before granting an official recognition to one of them.
Talking to Republica, Raj Kumar Shrestha, spokesperson for the EC, said the EC has already received separate applications from both the factions of the party, seeking their official recognition from the election body.
The rival factions of the party led by two chairmen KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal have already approached the EC, demanding their faction to be recognized as the authentic NCP. "After the investigation, we will make a decision as per the Political Party Act at the earliest," Shrestha said.
On Tuesday, the Oli-led faction filed application at the EC seeking its official recognition while the Dahal-lede faction reached there earlier today for the same.
