KATHMANDU, July 24: The European Commission(EC), the executive of the European Union, has mobilized € 8.5 million to assist four countries India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Philippines in South and South East Asia in being better prepared for natural disasters like floods and landslides.
The total allocated amount includes an emergency aid totalling €1.5 intended for the victims of floods and landslides that hit India and Bangladesh recently. More than 500,000 people were deplaced by the floods and landslides that recently took place in the two countries.

According to the press release issued by the EC on July 22, 2019, the remaining amount totalling € 7 million will be given to Nepal and Philipines to help them be better prepared for possible future floods and landslides.
"Our support will reach those most in need providing water, sanitation and essential supplies. In the wider region, the EU is also supporting Nepal and the Philippines to be better prepared for natural disasters and get aid to those most in need,” the press release quotes Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides as saying.
