KATHMANDU, Oct 6: The Election Commission (EC) has finalised the calendar for the upcoming election to be held on March 5, 2026.
Issuing a press release on Monday, the EC has announced the approved work plan for the election to the House of Representatives (HoR). As per the plan, political parties wishing to participate in the election will have to be registered from November 17 through November 26. The new political party planning to participate in the election will have to get the government registration by November 16.

The office of the Returning Officer will be established from January 16. The political parties can carry out their election campaigning between February 15 and March 2, 2026. On the election day of March 5, voting time has been scheduled from 7 AM to 5 PM, while the votes counting will be started only after collection of all the ballot boxes for the electoral system.
For the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system, the office of the Returning Officer will be established on December 1, while close lists will have to be submitted on January 2-3.
The EC in its press release has stated that it will consult and coordinate with the political parties and stakeholders for the election schedule time and again.
Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, who serves as spokesperson for the EC, said only political parties registered with the EC can submit their candidacies for the upcoming HoR election.
