KATHMANDU, Nov 25: A meeting of the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday urged the local governments to announce a public holiday on December 1 in the local wards where by-elections are to be held.
EC also directed the concerned bodies to provide polling venues for the local level by-elections. They are urged to provide for use the spaces which have been designated as polling venues from November 28 till the voting concludes on December 1. It also asked urged them to create a conducive environment for holding the local level by-election in a free, fair, credible and economical manner, said EC spokesperson Nita Pokharel Aryal.

The voting for the by-polls will open at 7.00 am and close at 5.00pm, the EC stated.
The EC, through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, instructed the local levels to make arrangements for using the community schools, private schools, the ward office, health post, community building, industrial establishment and public place that have been designated as polling venues.
