KATHMANDU, August 20: On the occasion of Gaijatra, the government has decided to give a public holiday on 23rd August, Monday, to the entire Newar community living across Nepal. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday decided to give a public holiday to the Newar community residing in the Valley as well as across the country.


Similarly, the meeting also decided to recommend to the President to promote Lieutenant General Prabhu Ram Sharma to the post of Chief of Army Staff. According to Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, spokesperson for the government, the meeting decided to recommend to President Bidya Devi Bhandari to promote Lieutenant General Sharma to the post of Chief of Army Staff.

“Similarly, it has been decided to grant a public holiday on August 30 on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami,” said Spokesperson Karki. The Cabinet meeting also decided to use 5.22 hectares of forest area in Kalbhairav ​​Community Forest and Gaurishankar Community Forest in Makwanpur district to build various structures required for the Kathmandu-Terai / Madhesh Expressway project.


According to Karki, Joint Secretary Dilliram Sharma has been promoted to a special category and they have accepted the resignation of Dr Mahendra Bista, executive chairperson of Nepal Television. He also informed Republica that the Council of Ministers has promoted some senior engineers of the Ministry of Irrigation and Energy from second class to the first class.
